Estonian Refugee Council The Estonian Refugee Council was registered as a non-governmental organisation in December 2000. The organisation is a continuation of the Legal Assistance Project that in the years 1999-2000 was run by the Estonian Red Cross, UNHCR and Concordia International University. The founding members of the Estonian Refugee Council include among others lawyers interested in refugee matters, Dean of the Law School of Concordia University, Member of Parliament, Minister of Ethnic Affairs, former coordinator of the Finnish Refugee Council projects in Estonia, the UNHCR Liaison Officer. <br><br> The aims of the Estonian Refugee Council are to assist asylum applicants and refugees to exercise their rights, to find long-lasting solutions acceptable for refugees in order to alleviate and improve their situation, to encourage an attitude of tolerance to refugees throughout society, to disseminate information related to asylum issues and to organise relevant training for interested parties, as well as to encourage the offering of foreign aid to refugees by the Estonian state and to organise. and offer spontaneous aid
