This document was provided by Immigration Equality, New York, NY<br><br Shock Gripped St. Josephs secondary School, Nsambya on Monday when Paula Rwomushana,18, a senior five student, was found dead in her bed in an apperent suicide following the accusations that she was a lesbian.<br>Paula lived in Nsambya Hospital quaters. Her father, John Rwomushana works with in the hospital and her mother is a nurse. A week before her death, Paula was suspended from school because she is a lesbian. Her parents brought her back on December 3, 2003.

"Section 377 extends to LGBT organisational membership, although this hasn?t stopped the rise of at least three LGBT Bangladeshi organisations- Bangladesh Association of Gays, Boys Only Bangladesh and Shakiyani for lesbians and bisexual women. Furthermore, hijras exist here as they do in the rest of South Asia, situational male homosexuality is commonplace, as is gay sex between male cousins and brothers in law, according to Gary Dowsett?s co-authored report on the area. Safe sex education occurs for sex workers, IV drug users and man who have sex with men, and condoms are available although usually discussed only in the context of contraception, with some religious and cultural taboos dampening discussion. Against this, Bangladesh has no shariah law."

Waiting for his bus home, a car pulled up, and a man rolled down the window and asked, "Are you gay?" Luiz responded, "No," but the men weren't convinced. They forced Luiz into the car, held a gun to his head, and played Russian roulette. Luiz lost consciousness, thinking he was going to die. He awoke hours later in a local hospital with 21 stitches in his head, having been beaten." <br><br> "On Oct. 28, Luiz was officially granted asylum by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which he celebrated by having friends over for a drink. He still suffers from low self-esteem because of his partial facial paralysis,"

"On the front page of his public education site on HIV, Dr. Hekmat  reminds his visitors that " AIDS is a health problem, not a crime.  Learn how to protect yourself against HIV and if you meet people with  HIV, don't treatment as criminals, but as people with health issue"." <br><br> On  Saturday, Dr. Minoo Moharaz, the head of the society for the  prevention of infectious disease criticized the government for not  promoting safe sex in school and in the media. She said, "80 percent  of people who hear the word condom on TV had no idea what a it is."

Many had the long hair and beards of Orthodox priests. "Christ has risen!" one of the 20 marchers shouted through a megaphone to the crowd, which had gathered to watch the recent Victory Day parade commemorating Germany's defeat in World War II. "Glory to Russian weaponry!"<br> The members of the Union of Orthodox Standard-Bearers see themselves as crusaders leading a modern-day Inquisition, and they consider few as heretical as homosexuals. Last May, they were part of a hymn-chanting and egg-throwing mob that broke up Moscow's gay parade. They say they will take to the streets again this year if, as planned, another gay parade is held.<br>"It's forbidden to propagandize any sin, such as homosexuality or murder," says Leonid Simonovich-Nikshich, the head of the group. "I personally think homosexuals need to be treated by doctors."

This document was provided by Immigration Equality, New York, NY<br><br> Gay Russians waving placards and rainbow flags demonstrated in central Moscow on Sunday in defiance of an official ban on gay pride events and abuse from far-right opponents.<br>The annual pride demonstration had been outlawed by Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who has dubbed gay pride events "Satan's work," reflecting a strain of Russian society that remains suspicious of liberal values.<br>A police spokesman told AFP 36 people had been arrested at the event at which Russian Orthodox and far-right opponents hurled eggs at gay activists and, in one instance, were seen punching a gay man to the ground.<br>Those arrested were mainly opponents of the pride event rather than gay activists -- suggesting police were keen to minimise trouble rather than strictly enforce the ban.

This document was provided by Immigration Equality, New York, NY<br><br In a letter to President Museveni, that was copied to the speaker of the Ugandan parliament as well as The Human Rights Commission of Uganda and all political parties in Uganda, the GALA-Uganda (Gay And Lesbians Alliance - Uganda) have declared their position on the intolerable situation for gays and lesbians in Uganda. After years of homophobic rhetoric from President Museveni and a life lived under the shadow of prosecution for being gay, the letter is putting the message and the issue on the agenda following the cabinet's non-inclusion of sexual orientation in the Constitutional review process.<br>The letter, dated October 2, 2003, says, "We believe criminalizing us because of our nature is unfair [and we] will not support any political organisation which doesn't endorse our rights."
