Morocco: Homosexuality , in Public? - * Translated by Yosra Mostafa www.islamonline.net - 11/26/08/ (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Social Stance
Moroccan society considers homosexuals as violators of traditions. The majority of Moroccan citizens view homosexual practices as unacceptable and a violation of the values of the Moroccan Muslim nation, its ethics, and its social unity.

Speaking to IslamOnline.net (IOL), one of the citizens who reject homosexuality said that these homosexuals can be described as "people who like to spread lewdness among believers [i.e. Muslims]" and those will find nothing but rejection and outcasting from the original inhabitants because they are aiming at corrupting a good soil that gave birth to honored scholars and was home to Islamic movements that defended their religion, homeland, and nation.

Article Excerpt
This article explores how two transgendered Fijian males navigate the intersections of sex, gender, and ethnicity or "race" in a Fiji secondary school. Their experiences illustrate, on the one hand, the negotiability of a transgendered category in Fiji. On the other hand, there is the for to potential transgendered identity open spaces for engagement with nonFijian ethnic markers in the face of essentialist discursive practices on ethnicity. The case study shows the individualized ways that two transgendered males negotiate and challenge notions of Fijian male authenticity. (Transgender, Fijians, ethnicity, Fijian schools)

But bigotry does not die easily. More recently, in 2007, a former (gay) business owner in Fiji reported to GlobalGayz: "After writing you about Fiji last year, a lot of crazy things happened there and all I can say is that I don't recommend anyone gay visit Fiji. I'm living in Australia now and have sold everything over there. Rabid homophobia drove me out. Fiji is a very religious country and this controls everything that happens there, especially how they feel and act towards gays."
The two stories below report about these unhappy events of 2007 and 2003, in that order,

Serbia: Against the changes of the proposal of the Law against Discrimination -Members of Coalition against discrimination- 03/06/09 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Attempts to present the solutions in the proposal of the Law against Discrimination as an extreme or as solutions requiring additional adjustments, present public deception and their goal is to hide the responsibility for withdrawing the Law only 15 hours prior to the discussion in the Serbian Parliament. Instead of a promise, we expect the Serbian Government to immediately put the Law back into the procedure with no changes and for the Parliament to adopt the proposed text with no delays. We find any further change in the Law to be unacceptable and that the Serbian government must support the proposal that is completely adjusted with all relevant parties, above all the ones the Law relates to.

Lesbian Human Rights Organization, CHRIS Network, Gayten LGBT , VelikiMali ,Association of Students with Handicap - 03/06/09 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Coalition against Discrimination strongly condemns the Government?s withdrawal of the Antidiscrimination law from the Republican Parliament. The Coalition is very concerned because the Law has been withdrawn after the pressure issued by the Serbian Orthodox Church and other traditional religious communities.

The first Antidiscrimination model law was drafted in 2001, and in 2005 the Coalition drafted the Law which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in accordance with the comprehensive Antidiscrimination law. The Law which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities was adopted in 2006, while the comprehensive Antidiscrimination law has not been on parliament?s agenda until now, in spite of the requests made by some parliamentary parties.
