Zimbabwe<br>South Africa <br><br>A strategic conference featuring HIV/Aids organizations and traditional chiefs in southern Africa ended in Johannesburg Thursday with the chiefs pledging to complement official efforts to fight the spread of HIV in their communities. The three-day meeting, held under the theme "Unleashing The Power Of Traditional Leadership in HIV Prevention in Africa: Leaders committed to Zero New Infections, Zero Stigma and Zero Mother to Child Transmission" was the first of its kind in the region.
Organizers conceded they had been wrong in not involving traditional leaders in the fight against HIV/Aids, adding they are now changing their strategy as they seek to reduce new transmissions in the region. The chiefs pledged to fight stigma and discrimination against those infected or affected by HIV/Aids in their societies.

Mexico: Demand Investigation into Murder of 13 year old in Guerrero- By IGLHRC on 04/19/06: http://www.iglhrc.org/cgi-bin/iowa/article/takeaction/globalactionalerts/260.html (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
On March 13, 2006, the body of Emilio Zuñiga (13) was found. Emilio had been beaten to death, with stones and sticks. He did spare jobs in exchange for food and allegedly was also engaged in commercial sex work. According to CEPRODEHI (Centro de Estudios y Proyectos para el Desarrollo Humano Integral A.C.), a local human rights NGO, it is likely that homophobia has played a role in this case and authorities need to be pressured to properly investigate and punish those responsible. <br><br>
IGLHRC joins CEPRODEHI in asking for letters to the relevant authorities demanding an exhaustive investigation into Emilio's murder, as well as other measures that might contribute to improve the conditions under which trans and bisexual people, lesbians and gays live in the state of Guerrero, as well as to prevent and punish expressions of intolerance.

Cameroon Country Report for use in refugee claims based on persecution relating to sexual orientation and gender identity - Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity research -sogi.ihrp@gmail.com International Human Rights Program University of Toronto - Produced: 04/05/09 : http://www.utorontoihrp.com/index.php/resources/working-group-reports/cat_view/10-working-group-reports/16-sogi-resources (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
I. Introduction <br><br>
? Homophobia is pervasive in Cameroonian society, and is incited by religious
organizations, state agents, and newspapers. <br><br>
? Same-sex sexual relations are illegal under Article 347 of the Penal Code of
Cameroon, carrying a penalty of 6 months to 5 years in jail and a fine. <br><br>
? Although some sources suggest that homosexuality is an "open secret" and that
the anti-homosexual provision is not widely enforced, there are dozens of
recorded cases in recent years of young men and women arrested, detained and/or
sentenced to jail on the basis of suspicions of homosexuality. <br><br>
? A prominent Cameroon lawyer who defends allegedly homosexual clients notes
that, although article 347 requires the parties to be caught in the act, the police
arrest on suspicions of homosexuality alone and the courts uphold those arrests. <br><br>
? Criminal procedure is often violated in the case of persons arrested on suspicion
of homosexuality. The investigation and trial process is dragged out beyond the
durations allowed by law to punish the accused illegally. <br><br>
? Men arrested on suspicion of homosexuality are often subjected to anal
examinations.
