unconstitutional, more than 500 GLBT people marched inside Vermanes Park

The jurist María Elena Castrillón is accustomed to difficult stories. In her position as Public Defender in Caldas, daiy she hears heartbreaking testimony of all luck of outrages. Armed with codes and laws, she explains to the people the legal instruments to defend themselves and the necessity of being firm when it comes to demanding their rights. Last Friday, the 25th of April, she went to pieces. Humiliated, she cried before the aggressive chorus of hundreds of girls from the Leonardo da Vince School of Manizales against two of their classmates who publicly had accepted that they loved one another."We don't want them. We don't want them.

Great leap forward for Nepal's gays-One activist has taken an invisible minority in the conservative land out of the shadows, having secured a Supreme Court ruling affirming gay and transgender rights.- By Henry Chu, www.latimes.com 05/02/08 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
KATMANDU, NEPAL ? Just eight years ago, Sunil Pant wondered whether there was anyone else in this Himalayan land like him. To his engineer's mind, it was a riddle to be solved, and he methodically set about doing so.<br><br>"But there's a lot of work [still] to be done," said Long of Human Rights Watch. With so many groups clamoring to be represented in the new constitution, he said, "it's going to be an enormous challenge to meet all those demands with a constitutional solution that actually provides for remedies against discrimination."<br><br>
Panthas other headaches as well. A hospice his organization runs for AIDS patients in Katmandu has been evicted four times in 2 1/2 years and is seeking a new home. "We still face problems," Pant said. "But on the other hand, compared to other countries, it's quite remarkable that we've achieved so much in such a short time."

To all media, the National Government and the general population - AHMNP 05/02/08 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
We request that the Minister of Government and Justice, Daniel Delgado Diamante, clarify and specify his declarations to the written press where he points out that there have already been cases of homosexuality reported in the "institution," this is why it will fall to the Police to control this situation. These declarations provoke uncertainty in the gay and lesbian communities, as they feel persecuted by the authorities and where discrimination of denying the communities is reinforced, as Panamanians, a basic right, which is the right to work and to serve the homeland. We invite the Minister to remember that his position includes the defense of the rights of all Panamanians without distinction to their sexual orietation.

Ecuador: La discriminación no se supera- Discrimination can not be overcome- by Amelia Ribadeneira , www.telegrafo.com.ec 05/02/08 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
In Ecuador, one is discriminated against for being gay, lesbian, transsexual, transvestite or transgender. In order to have employment, three things are necessary: first, conceal your sexual orientation in order to live in peace; second, console oneself by going to a
beauty salon without this job being degrading; and third, having luck and finding space to work. These spaces, usually, are the ones that advance the fight for human rights.
