Various things prove what the book "Homophobia, Hate, Crime & Justice 1995-2005", from the journalist Fernando del Collado states. The main one is that the level of hate which exists in the Mexican society against homosexuals, women and the native people has risen to a criminal level, that is to stay, to kill a person for being different is disturbing, and even more, it deals with acts which aren't even classified as hate crimes.

KWA-THEMA, SOUTH AFRICA: LESBIAN BRUTALLY RAPED AND STONED TO DEATH WITH BRICKS For Immediate Release April - By Ntsupe Chairperson, EPOC, on 27, 2011 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Ekurhuleni Pride Organizing Committee (EPOC), the key LGBTI organization in the township of Kwa-Thema, Gauteng, South Africa, and the Coalition of African Lesbians (CAL,) condemn the brutal rape and murder, in cold blood, of a member of EPOC. Noxola Nogwaza is believed to have been murdered in the early hours of Sunday, April

Noxola was raped and murdered in a similar manner as that in which another member of EPOC was murdered almost three years ago (April 28, 2008). Eudy Simelane?s body was also found in an open field in Kwa-Thema. It was clear that she had been raped and murdered afterwards, crimes that the perpetrators confessed to. Just last year, a gay man in the same township was attacked by eight men, who attempted to rape him. Luckily, he escaped the vultures. The men, as they attempted to rape him, were heard saying, ?We are determined to kill all gay people in this area and we will do it.?

It is the responsibility of the South African Government to protect all its citizens. Hate crimes against LGBT people in this country are on the rise and the government should come out openly against these actions. Protection of individuals who are vulnerable because of their sexual orientation and or gender identity is something provided for in the Constitution of South Africa and should be put in practice

South Africa: A gay lifestyle is okay, but being gay is not, IRIN News, 4/8/10: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportID=88745 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Gay communities across Africa often run into the sharp end of prejudice against their sexual orientation, yet a transvestite fraternity in the South African coastal city of Cape Town has gained a level of acceptance that allows them to publicly practice their lifestyle with minimal fear of retribution.
The rights of gays are enshrined in the country's constitution, but the murder of homosexuals and the "corrective rape" of lesbians often feature in the headlines; now, the city's "moffie culture" - a term for the mainly coloured, or mixed race, transvestites - is managing to transcend these barriers to a degree.

South Africa: Activism makes inroads on "corrective rape", IRIN News, 3/15/11: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportID=92198 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
The South African government has agreed to activist demands to address the increasingly common hate crime of "corrective rape", whereby lesbians are raped by men to "cure" them of their sexual orientation. Although statistics are lacking, gay advocacy groups estimate about 10 new cases of corrective rape occur every week in Cape Town, a city of 2.5 million. The decision was reached during a meeting on 14 March between senior officials from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development and grassroots activists who brought a petition signed by 170,000 supporters in 163 countries. More than 100 people gathered outside Parliament in support.

South Africa: MSM left out of media, prevention programmes, IRIN News, 11/26/10: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportID=91198 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Men who have sex with men (MSM) do not make headlines in South African media and HIV experts have warned that a lack of accurate coverage prevents targeted HIV prevention and care for these men. Oscar Radebe is a doctor specializing in HIV care and treatment at the Simon Nkoli Men?s Health Centre - named for one of the country?s first openly gay, HIV-positive human rights activists - in Johannesburg?s largest township, Soweto. Radebe spoke at a recent roundtable discussion about the South African media?s tendency to divide men into two groups, heterosexual or homosexual.

South Africa: Tide of violence against women drowns out homophobia, IRIN News, 2/1/07: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportID=70792 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Violence against women is one of the most pervasive forms of discrimination in South Africa and there is mounting concern that some assaults might be driven by prejudice against their sexual orientation. Research into gender-based violence is still largely limited to heterosexual couples, according to Funeka Soldaat, a lesbian activist from Khayelitsha, a township about 30km west of Cape Town.

The Bishop of Central Tanganyika, the Rt Revd Godfrey Mdimi Mhogolo, has dissociated his diocese from the statement issued in December by the House of Bishops of Tanzania, the province where the Primates Meeting is to be held this
month. The Bishops declared a "severely impaired" relationship with the Episcopal Church in the United States (ECUSA), and announced that Tanzania would not knowingly accept any money from dioceses, parishes, bishops, and individuals that "condone homosexual practice or bless same-sex unions".

In 2010, 260 gay men, transvestites and lesbians were murdered in Brazil. According to a report by the Grupo Gay da Bahia (GGB) released on Monday, every day and a half a Brazilian homosexual is killed. In the past five years, there has been an increase of 113 percent in the number of murders of homosexuals. In the first three months of 2011 alone, there were 65 murders.

Among the victims, 54 percent were gay men, 42 percent were transvestites and four percent were lesbians. Luiz Mott, the anthropologist responsible for the survey, believes the statistics are smaller than the reality. ?Those 260 documented murders are an underreported number, because there are no official hate crime statistics in Brazil. The situation for homosexuals is extremely troubling.?
