Los 138 casos y denuncias por discriminación del 2010 se dividieron en 1 asesinato, 5 agresiones físicas o verbales perpetradas por civiles, 2 atropellos policiales, 9 de tipo laboral y 9 en el plano educacional, 22 campañas homofóbicas o transfóbicas, 4 episodios de exclusión institucional, 35 marginaciones o obstáculos para el uso de espacios públicos o privados, 11 actos de violencia propinados por familias, amigos/os o vecinos, 42 declaraciones contra la diversidad sexual y 1 suceso contrario a la igualdad en el ámbito de la cultura, medios y espectáculos. <br><br> Del total de casos, el 11 por ciento afectó en forma exclusiva a lesbianas, el 10 por ciento a gays y el 4 por ciento a transexuales, mientras que el 75 por ciento dañó a la diversidad sexual como conjunto, precisó el estudio de 292 páginas. <br><br> The 138 cases and accusations from 2010 included one murder, five physical or verbal assaults perpetrated by civilians, two police abuses, nine work related and nine in the educational arena, 22 homophobic or transphobic campaigns, four episodes of institutional exclusion, 35 exclusions or obstacles for the use of public or private spaces, eleven acts of violence carried out by families, friends or neighbors, 42 declarations against sexual diversity and one occurrence against equality in the cultural sphere, the media and in show business. <br><br> Of the total of the cases, 11% affected lesbians exclusively, 10% affected gays exclusively and 4% transsexuals, while 75% harmed the sexual diversity as a group, the 292 page study specified.

Uganda, Nigeria, Burundi, Senegal <br><br> Discrimination against people based on their perceived or real sexual orientation continued in various countries. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as well as human rights activists working with and for them were harassed and intimidated. Some faced arbitrary arrest and detention as well as ill-treatment. New legislation to further criminalize homosexuality was introduced or debated in parliaments across the region. People were also discriminated against across the region for their gender, ethnicity, religion and identity. Discrimination and violence against women and girls prevailed in many societies and in different forms. Women and girls continued to be raped, particularly in situations of armed conflict such as in Chad, the DRC and Sudan.

"Amidst the recent tabling of the draft constitution currently siting before parliament, the Forum for Leadership Search revealed that it had information that some government officials have been meeting opposition leader Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF) to lobby for recognition of homosexuality in Zambia. Opposition's leader Michael Sata. Since the surfacing of such information the Independent Churches of Zambia has called for the naming and shaming of those leaders allegedly in favour of the recognition of homosexuality. <br><br> Homosexuality in Zambia is further prohibited in the Penal Code, and criminalised under Chapter 87 section 155-9, stated as unnatural offences and bestiality. But Mubanga says ?homosexuality is very hard to prove, our  laws state that one must be found in the act for them to arrest you. The government has of course made threats but that is all they can do.? <br><br> Mubanga further said ?In our opinion the current intended laws are very harsh and bluntly disregard citizens their rights to communion.? The Zambian government has maintained a staunch homophobic stand on homosexuality, with former president, Frederick Chiluba who has previously said ?homosexuality in the deepest level of depravity, which is unbiblical and abnormal.?

* In Central Eastern Europe and Central Asia, a survey of 238 male, female, and transgender sex workers conducted by the Sex Workers? Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN) found that 42 percent of sex workers in the region reported having experienced physical violence by the police and 36 percent had experienced sexual violence.<br> * Since 2006, police in Liverpool, UK have agreed a policy in which all crimes against sex workers are treated as hate crimes and have appointed a sex work liaison officer. <br> * Though recently institutional violence in Cambodia has gotten a lot of attention, violence committed against sex workers by intimate partners is also a major problem. The Cambodian Prostitute Union provides education to sex workers and their abusive partners about the domestic violence law as well as counseling, support, and service referrals for sex workers.<br> * The Aboriginal Sex Workers Education and Outreach Project in Canada was founded in 2008 to focus on the needs of Aboriginal street-based sex workers, who experience high rates of violence and HIV infection. Many transgender Americans face intolerance in almost every aspect of their lives, contributing to high levels of homelessness, unemployment and despair, according to a comprehensive survey being released Friday. <br><br> "I felt there was not an ounce of compassion or empathy for individuals who may be displaying atypical gender roles," and by 17 she was contemplating suicide, she wrote.<br><br> According to the survey, 41 percent of respondents reported attempting suicide, 26 percent said they had lost a job due to being transgender, and 19 percent reported being denied a home or apartment. Almost one-fifth said they'd been homelessness at some point.
