Sweden to Deport Gay Iranian Refugee; Says No Persecution In Homeland If Discreet- By Anthony Cuesta (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
GayWired.com<br>
09.29.06<br>
A gay Iranian man is to be deported from Sweden back to his homeland, a migration court in Stockholm decided on Friday.<br>
According to Swedenâs The Local, gay rights group RFSL has condemned the decision, saying that the man could be executed on his return.<br>
"They're choosing to send people back and just hope that things go well, and that they're not executed," said RFSL's chairman Sören Andersson to The Local.<br>
The Iranian man had appealed a decision from the Swedish Board of Migration to deport him. According to The Local, he told the court that he had been harassed, assaulted and imprisoned because of his sexual orientation. He also said that he had been arrested by Iranian police and raped at the police station.<br>

Michelle Saraswati was getting ready to step into the shower on
Tuesday, August 8, when there was a knock at the door of her San
Francisco apartment. That knock turned out to be a signal that the
past few years of uncertainty had caught up with her. <br><br>
Immigration officials promptly arrested the 40-year-old professional
architect, with a threat from the U.S. government that she soon
would be deported back to the Muslim island of Java on Indonesia.<br><br>
"I am so scared. This is like an execution for me," Saraswati told
the Bay Area Reporter during an interview from the Santa Clara
County jail in San Jose on Sunday, August 27. "If I have to go back,
my life will be over."

Guyana: Boycott SASOD's latest endeavour - Roger Williams-5/31/06 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Here's a letter in today's Kaieteur News that warrants a response:<br>
Boycott SASOD's latest endeavour<br>
Dear Editor,>br>
All Christians should now actively boycott the Sidewalk Cafe for accommodating SASOD's latest endeavour into lawlessness (the second year in a row) and actively petition the Crime Chief to do his job.<br>
There are good and valid legal, moral and social reasons why radio programmes at NCN sponsored by SASOD and Vidyaratha Kissoon, exhibitions regarding the homosexual lifestyle at the National Library and âfilm festivalsâ at the Sidewalk Cafe, should not be allowed. Some of these are listed below.<br>
Further, Kaieteur News should not accommodate SASOD with press releases.<br>
1. Guyana 's criminal law prohibits same-sex relationships and intercourse ⦠for good moral and medical reasons.<br>
This includes offences in relation to sexual activity between males, such as s. 351 (gross indecency between males), s. 352 (attempted buggery), s. 353 (buggery) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, and offences in relation to prostitution, such as s. 356 of Chapter 8:01 and s. 165 of Chapter 8:02 (keeping a common bawdy house) and s. 166 of 8:02 (loitering for the purposes of prostitution).<br>

Guyana: Sexual orientation bill going back to Parliament-By Patrick Denny-1/30/01 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
The bill banning discrimination against persons
based on their sexual orientation is to be sent back to
Parliament for review following the maelstrom over whether
it would in effect legalise homosexual relations.<br>
Unanimously passed by the National Assembly earlier
this month, it has not yet been assented to by the President
and is therefore not law.<br>
Representatives of religious groups and three parliamentary
parties who met at the Office of the President yesterday agreed
that the Constitution (Amendment) (No.5) Bill should be sent
back to the National Assembly for its reconsideration.

Guyana: Where major religions here stand on homosexuality, condoms- By Oluatoyin Alleyne- 1/30/06 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Monday, January 30th 2006 Stabroek News<br>
Religious bodies disagree, sometimes vehemently, on matters pertaining to their faiths, but, not surprisingly, they are united on many of the so-called taboo issues including homosexuality and the use of condoms.<br>
Religious leaders from the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Muslim, Hindu, Pentecostal and Seventh Day Adventist faiths all agree that homosexuality is wrong and that the use of condoms encourages fornication.<br>
There have been raging debates on both these issues worldwide as health officials promote the use of condoms to help reduce the spread of HIV. But many religious leaders continue to say no to their use in their places of worship arguing that should they advocate their use it would be like telling their young people to fornicate.

SASOD Film Festival - review 'A darker Side of Black'- Guyana (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
The content of reggae and dancehall music noting that
most artistes are of Caribbean origin sends a signal
to the international community that Caribbean people
generally accept and welcome the torture and
criminality against homosexuals more so in the
Caribbean. This is the wrong perception and one that
must be altered.<br>
The reality is that there is an existence of
homophobia in the Caribbean like any other region or
country. However, âsongs of hate to deathâ by some
reggae and dancehall artistes in the Caribbean
reinforce this homophobia. Why is this so?<br>
Well, based on my analysis of the documentary four
over-riding themes can be cited for the so-called
âhomophobic nationalismâ in the Caribbean.<br>
* Black Patriarchy â The reality that we live in a
male dominated and constructed society (the Caribbean
in specific context) with the black male exhibiting
and exhorting a strong level of machismo. Therefore
any tendency or lifestyle that counters this (being
homosexuality) is an attack on the masculinity of the
black male and his superiority over women in a
patriarchal society that subordinates them (women)

Guyana: Border Blues: When You Can't Go Home Because You Have HIV- by Nicole Joseph- POZ-2/1/06 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
February 1, 2006â??A 36-year-old Guyanese man got the OK Monday to stay in the U.S. after a judge agreed that he might be physically attacked in Guyana for being HIV positive and gayâ??and perhaps even die for lack of treatment. â??He once had bricks thrown at him,â? explains Sarah Sohn, who defended the case on behalf of Immigration Equality, a New York-based advocacy firm. <br>
It was a rare happy ending. HIV issues are not usually enough to sway U.S. immigration judges, whether in asylum cases or for more last-minute reprieves like the â??withholding of removalâ? granted the man from Guyana (who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution if he ever does get sent back).

"Las lesbianas son mujeres y por eso son mas discriminadas que los gays" La Nacion- Dalia Rojas (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
"Lesbians are women, that is why they are more discriminated against than gay men"<br>
