5382. Gay in Macedonia- Globalgays.com (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
There are homosexuals in Macedonia, although no one wants to speak about them and they are stigmatized because they're different. In Macedonia, if you say you're homosexual, you get insulted in public, laid off from work, beaten in the streets. The laws allow you to be a homosexual, but in reality there's no way for these people to protect themselves from discrimination they face everywhere.

5384. Gays and Lesbians in Macedonia- GaytimesUK.com (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
Scene & culture:
There is not much information on homosexuality in Macedonia but given the very late legalisation in 1997 - and this was imposed by Europe - one can assume the homophobia is deep rooted. In 1995 The Bar Association in Macedonia voted to ban homosexuals and alcoholics from becoming lawyers saying the public didn't trust them. In 2003 the Centre for Civil and Human Rights was set up, the only group in Macedonia advocating gay and lesbian rights. They ran a controversial bill board advertising campaign in 2004 and were forced to remove these by a hostile and homophobic government.

5399. Is Beheading Really the Punishment for Homosexuality in Saudi Arabia? (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
By Mubarak Dahir, syndicated column, December, 2002
A few weeks before taking a trip to Saudi Arabia in October, I sent out a notice to my friends in America and the Arab World, letting them know that I wanted to interview gay men while I was there and asking for their help in making contacts.
In response to my request, I got a flood of frantic e-mails.
Even gay Arab friends, long accustomed to the harsh treatment their own governments give homosexual citizens, sent me urgent and alarmed notes pleading with me to be careful. Saudi Arabia, the e-mails warned me, was exponentially more repressive than any other place I'd visited in the Arab World, and was therefore that much more dangerous.
