Mexico City: Mexico is the second ranked place in Latin America where people are murdered because of their sexual orientation, with 420 registered in roughly a decade (from 1995-2006), revealed the Annual Homophobic Crimes Informant 2005/2006 and was elaborated on by Letra S (Letter S), that specializes in subjects of health, sexuality and HIV.
According to the report, for every homicide it mentioned, two were never heard of by the authorities. Because of this, estimates of the figure could be elevated to 1260 homophobic related crimes.

Homophobia -2bp- archive- Two known neighbors of the Maruata and Coahuayana communities in Michoacán were sequestered during the evening this past friday. This may be seen as the beginning of homophobic actions on behalf of the organized crime in the institution, at least with one of the cases. <br><br>
At the municipality of Aquila, Aarón Flores Isidro, who is very well known in the Maruata community disappeared after a group of unknown men took him to an undisclosed location <br><br>

"The crimes like those of the last few days, product of homophobic hate en the region of the Isthmus, are on the rise, which is why homosexual voices have been raised in order to demand respect for their rights."<br><br>
He said that the most serious violence is the physical, experiencing all kinds of attacks and murders like what has occurred only this month, depriving life of our brothers, who as human beings, we have the right to life, respect and equality."<br><br>
"There have also been murders against homosexuals which we consider having been done due to homophobia, and this has happened in every part of the Isthmus, this is a signal that even this problem of homophobia exists."

Uganda: Press Release- PRO-HOMOSEXUALITY RIGHTS HIGH COURT RULING SPELLS DISASTER- by NCAHSAU, 01/03/10 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
We condemn the Jan 3rd 2011 High Count ruling that grants homos to hide under the guise of human rights while they continuously parade themselves as proud homosexuals. <br><br> We take this issue that the judge failed to take into account that the applicants (Homos) are a danger to our children as they take to recruiting the innocent children in our schools. <br><br>
We condemn the ruling that seeks to establish homosexuality as a human right. We condemn the homosexuals who have been hiding under the clause due to the loopholes in the law where the anti homosexuality law in the penal code is not gender balanced leaving women out as pointed out by the judge. <br><br> We feel it is important and urgent to have better, enforceable and more appropriate anti-homosexuality laws to close loopholes in existing laws in effort to protect Uganda?s children.

Egypt: Lesbian teen fights deportation - by Jonny Payne, www.pinkpaper.com, on 11/27/10: http://news.pinkpaper.com/NewsStory/4385/27/11/2010/lesbian-teen-fights-deportation.aspx (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
"Campaigners are raising funds for a gay Egyptian teenager's fight for UK asylum, with the applicant believing she'll 'have to live in hiding' if deported. Shrouk El-Attar, 18, has lived in the UK for three years after moving to Cardiff with her family, but she is now facing deportation as first her mother's and then her own applications for asylum were denied. The Home Office rejected El-Attar's application last month, and she is currently being housed by the Border Agency while her case awaits a hearing at the High Court. <br><br>
'As a gay person, life in Egypt would be impossible for me. I would never be able to express my true self and would have to live in hiding.' <br><br>
While homosexuality is not illegal in Egypt, Human Rights Watch has condemned the country for the persecution of homosexuals, stating on its website: 'Men suspected of being homosexual remain at risk of arbitrary arrest'. The organisation urged the Egyptian government to: 'End arrests and prosecutions solely for adult, consensual homosexual conduct' and to 'end compulsory HIV testing and forced anal examinations of men suspected of homosexual conduct' in a formal submission to the UN last year."

Jordan: Police Raid Gay Party in Amman - by www.ammonnews.net on 12/03/10: http://en.ammonnews.net/article.aspx?articleNO=11045 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
"AMMONNEWS - (Exclusive) Amman police personnel interfered early Friday morning before dawn to break up a party held by a group of young men identifying themselves as homosexuals near a hotel on Makkah Street in Amman. Police asked for the young men's ID cards and ordered the crowds to disperse and shut down the party being held in a rented hall near Um Uthainah district. <br><br>
Dozens of young men had held the party in an alley adjacent to Makkah Street near Al Haramayn Circle overnight on Thursday and early Friday morning. The party included very loud music, alcohol drinking, public display of dancing and kissing, a matter that reportedly disturbed nearby residents and passerbys. Police sources said that the crowds included men ranging in age between 15-30 years old, and a number of older men were also seen."

Pride and prejudice: The targeting of gay men in Iraq - by Brian Whitaker, ww.neareastquarterly, com, on 11/28/10: http://neareastquarterly.com/neqwordpress/?p=631 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
"Today, homosexual acts in private are still technically legal in Iraq, though the criminal code outlaws 'immodest acts' in public. The law also protects people from public insults ? which would appear to include suggesting that someone is gay, even if it happens to be true. At the same time, though, the 2005 constitution
has a number of exclusions where the general rights and freedoms that it grants do not apply in situations where violations of 'public morals' are involved. <br><br>
By the time war broke out in 2003, Haider Jaber was working as a doctor in a Baghdad hospital and had struck up a relationship with Ali, who he had met in a clothes shop: 'I used to be seen going to my house with Ali. People then started to approach both of us asking us why were we going home together. They were men from the neighbouring houses and men who used to own shops there. At the end of 2003, I was coming back from the hospital and I was stopped by about four or five men, one of whom I knew as he was a neighbour. I tried to walk away but I was grabbed by the collar of my shirt. They asked me about Ali and ? said they knew I was having sex with him. I denied it. They said that if they saw this man [Ali] again in that area, they would cut his legs off.'"

Raid in Jordan or homophoic press hysteria? - by Dan Littauer, www.gaymiddleeast.com, on 12/07/10: http://www.gaymiddleeast.com/news/news%20241.htm (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
"Last Thursday, around midnight, the second of December 2010, a gay party on Mecca St, in Amman was raided. It was run by the same people whose party had an incident Halloween. When the police arrived they asked the party goers for their id cards and immediately released everyone except those who did not have the identification on them. They were questioned and then released. The police apparently wanted to know who hosted the party in an unlicensed hall. The whole thing was over by 03:00AM. <br><br>
Reading the related article in the Jordanian online tabloid portal 'Ammon', you would have thought something entirely different! The journalist used highly offensive terms in arabic ?????? (perverts, which could include pedophilia) and the article's tone was deeply negative and homophobic. <br><br>
Furthermore the article insinuated the age old implicit link between pedophilia and homosexuality, the old man tempting the younger narrative: 'Police sources said that the crowds included men ranging in age between 15-30 years old, and a number of older men were also seen.' The paper also alleged that the police claimed the party 'violated the Public Assembly Law.'"
