Mexico: Demand Investigation into Murder of 13 year old in Guerrero/Mexico IGLHRC 4/19/06 (Sexual Minorities & HIV Status)
On March 13, 2006, the body of Emilio Zuñiga (13) was found. Emilio had been beaten to death, with stones and sticks. He did spare jobs in exchange for food and allegedly was also engaged in commercial sex work. According to CEPRODEHI (Centro de Estudios y Proyectos para el Desarrollo Humano Integral A.C.), a local human rights NGO, it is likely that homophobia has played a role in this case and authorities need to be pressured to properly investigate and punish those responsible. <br> <br>
IGLHRC joins CEPRODEHI in asking for letters to the relevant authorities demanding an exhaustive investigation into Emilio's murder, as well as other measures that might contribute to improve the conditions under which trans and bisexual people, lesbians and gays live in the state of Guerrero, as well as to prevent and punish expressions of intolerance.

IRAQ: IGLHRC Calls for Immediate Investigation into Reports of Gay Iraqis Targeted for Violence, Kidnappings and Murder
(New York, April 20, 2006) After reports from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) that gay Iraqis are increasingly targeted for violent threats, kidnappings, attacks, and murder solely because of their sexual orientation, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) has written to the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and called on the Bush Administration to take all appropriate measures to publicly condemn the escalation of violence against gay men and lesbians in Iraq and take all possible measures to ensure their protection.
