Al-Bab: Gay and Lesbian Arabs Al-Bab aims to introduce non-Arabs to the Arabs and their culture. Western explorers of the 18th and 19th centuries portrayed the Arab world as a strange, exotic and sometimes terrifying place. Al-Bab seeks to portray the Arab world neither as an object of fear nor as a cultural curiosity - fascinating though it may be.
*It tries to look beyond the strange or exotic, to show the Arab world as it is and to explain, as simply as possible, how it has become what it is.
*It tries to seek out the points of interaction with other cultures rather than the differences; the ways in which the Arab world has influenced other cultures or been influenced by them.
*It tries, too, to celebrate the achievements of Arab culture and to discuss its failings openly.
Al-Bab consists mainly of links to other sites and pages on the internet but also contains some original material. The links are presented in an organised, structured way which is intended to make information easy to find.

GlobalGayz.com The victories and the defeats have not been even among nations. In countries such as South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Holland, Germany, Scandinavia, and fitfully the USA, gay culture and gay love have been recognized and validated by federal or state laws and celebrated with colorful festivals and solemn ceremonies. In other repressed countries such as Iran, Egypt, Arabia and most of Africa the wrong sexual orientation can lead to one's imprisonment or demise.
Between these two polarities is the rest of the world. There is a wide range of countries, vast and populous, small and isolated, in which homosexuality is viewed as enigma (Mongolia), a quirk of nature that merits indifference (Thailand), denial (Peru), ambivalence (Uruguay and Morocco), cautious hope (China) or cautious restraint (Sri Lanka) or as a safe but delicate stage for daring gender-bending (Philippines)

Helem [Lebanon] Legal persecution of homosexuals in Lebanon is justified through law 534 of the Lebanese penal code, which states that ?unnatural sexual intercourse? is punishable by up to one year imprisonment.
One of Helem?s main long-term goals is the annulment of this outdated and unjust law. To this end, Helem lobbies with other human rights organizations on the national, regional, and international levels for the decriminalization of homosexuality and the advancement of human rights and personal freedoms in Lebanon.

IGLHRC: Where Having Sex is a Crime: Criminalization and Decriminalization of Homosexual Acts (2003) Many countries maintain laws that prohibit or regulate sexual activity between consenting adults of the same sex. Often called sodomy laws, some statutes regulate specific sexual acts (for example anal sex) regardless of gender or sexual orientation while others prohibit a range of same-sex sexual activities. Many laws are quite broad in their scope, for example prohibiting any "unnatural" or "indecent" sexual act.
Other countries maintain "morality laws" against "anti-social" or "immoral" behavior, "causing a public scandal," "hooliganism," "loitering," etc. that are used by the police to arrest and harass gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons. Examples of such countries include Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, and several states within the United States. The United Kingdom prohibits the "promotion" of homosexuality.
Complex legislation from so many different judicial contexts does not lend itself to easy synthesis in a brief information sheet. To provide focus, this page does not include details about "morality laws" but rather concentrates on laws that criminalize sexual acts performed by consenting adults in private. It also does not include information about differing ages of consent for homosexuals and heterosexuals. This page neither details specific penalties provided for in the law nor does it indicate how often the laws are enforced. For additional information, please refer to the sources cited, the additional web links provided, or contact the consular representative of the country in question.
